SonoCase Terms of Use
Version 1.1. Effective date: 18 October 2026.
What SonoCase is for
SonoCase is a blank personal portfolio and recording tool for qualified healthcare professionals and students. Users add their own clips and notes; SonoCase supplies no clinical cases, diagnoses or treatment guidance. It is not a medical device. It does not diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any medical condition, and must not be used for clinical decisions or as a medical record. Always consult a qualified healthcare professional and follow your local clinical policies. SonoCase is not an accredited training course, does not assess or certify competence, and does not replace accredited programmes or college requirements such as RCEM, FUSIC, FAMUS, ASUM CCPU or ACEM credentialing. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by any of these organisations.
How these terms fit together
These terms are an agreement between you and the SonoCase developer ("we", "us"). They have three parts:
- Part A, the SonoCase terms, applies to everyone, on iPhone and Android.
- Part B, the App Store terms, applies if you got SonoCase from Apple's App Store. It sets out the terms Apple requires in every app's licence. If you got SonoCase from the App Store, Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement (apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula) also applies, and Part A adds to it. If they conflict, Part A applies to the extent Apple's terms allow.
- Part C, the Google Play terms, applies if you got SonoCase from Google Play.
Part A: the SonoCase terms
1. Accepting these terms, and who can use SonoCase
1.1 When SonoCase first opens, it asks you to confirm three statements and tick that you agree to these Terms of Use and the Privacy Policy. By ticking and continuing, you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, do not use SonoCase.
1.2 SonoCase is intended for qualified healthcare professionals and students training to become one. There is no separate minimum age requirement for using SonoCase.
1.3 SonoCase keeps a record on your phone of the version of these terms you accepted and when.
2. What SonoCase is, and what it is not
2.1 The statement "What SonoCase is for", above, forms part of these terms.
2.2 SonoCase is not a medical device. It has not been assessed or registered as one by any regulator (such as the MHRA in the UK or the TGA in Australia).
2.3 You must not rely on SonoCase, or on anything recorded, written, marked or shared in it, for any clinical decision, diagnosis or treatment, or use it as a medical record. Clinical decisions must be based on your own clinical judgement, the original imaging and records, and your local policies.
2.4 Using SonoCase does not create a doctor and patient relationship, or any other clinical relationship, between us and you or anyone else. We do not provide healthcare.
2.5 Training pathways, targets and logbook features are a personal record only. They do not show that you are competent, do not count towards any qualification unless your training body says so, and the pre-filled targets may be out of date. Always check your official requirements.
3. Your responsibilities
3.1 You must record only de-identified images. Before recording, saving or sharing anything, you must make sure it contains no patient-identifiable information, such as names, dates of birth, record or hospital numbers, addresses, phone numbers, faces or other identifying features.
3.2 You must get consent where your local policy requires it, before you record.
3.3 You must follow the policies of your employer and health service, the standards of your professional regulator (for example the GMC, NMC or HCPC in the UK, or AHPRA in Australia), and the privacy and data protection laws that apply to you.
3.4 You must keep your phone secure, with a passcode, Face ID or other screen lock, and keep its software up to date.
3.5 You must check every export, email, portfolio file and backup before you share or save it, including when SonoCase asks you to. SonoCase's crop, text check, blur and warnings are aids only. They may miss identifying details, and you remain responsible for what you share.
3.6 You are responsible for any supervisor's details and signatures you enter, and for having their agreement to record them.
3.7 Your cases are stored only on your phone and are not backed up by SonoCase. You are responsible for keeping your own backups (for example with SonoCase Pro's encrypted backup) and your backup passwords.
4. What you must not do
4.1 You must not:
- record, store or share identifiable patient information;
- use SonoCase for clinical decisions, diagnosis, treatment, triage or as a medical record;
- record anyone without the consent your local policy requires, or record anything other than an ultrasound machine's screen for teaching;
- share content in breach of patient confidentiality, your employer's policies or the law;
- copy, change, sell, rent or redistribute SonoCase, or try to get its source code, except where the law allows this;
- get around SonoCase Pro or the free version's limits other than through a store subscription;
- interfere with SonoCase's security features;
- use SonoCase for anything unlawful, harmful or misleading.
5. The free version and SonoCase Pro
5.1 The free version of SonoCase lets you keep up to 5 cases, and includes the app lock, the text check and blur, the patient-details checks and video export. Privacy and safety features are never part of a paid plan.
5.2 SonoCase Pro is a yearly subscription that adds unlimited cases and the other features listed on the SonoCase Pro page.
5.3 Price. The price is shown in the App Store or Google Play, in your local currency, before you buy, and on the SonoCase Pro page. Prices may include tax.
5.4 Free trial. New subscribers may get a 7-day free trial if the store offers it to them. You are not charged during the trial. Unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends, the yearly price is charged when the trial ends. On the App Store, any unused part of a free trial ends when you buy a subscription.
5.5 Payment. Payment is charged to your Apple Account or Google Play account when you confirm the purchase, or at the end of the free trial.
5.6 Automatic renewal. The subscription renews every year automatically, at the then current price, unless you turn off automatic renewal at least 24 hours before the end of the current year. Your account is charged for the renewal within the 24 hours before the current year ends. If the price changes, the store will tell you first, as its rules require.
5.7 Managing and cancelling. You can manage or cancel the subscription at any time in your store account settings:
- iPhone: Settings > your name > Subscriptions;
- Android: Google Play > your profile > Payments and subscriptions > Subscriptions.
Deleting SonoCase does not cancel the subscription. If you cancel, SonoCase Pro stays on until the end of the period you have paid for.
5.8 Refunds. Payments and refunds are handled by Apple or Google under their own policies. We cannot issue refunds ourselves. To ask for a refund, use Apple's "Report a Problem" (reportaproblem.apple.com) or Google Play's refund process. This does not affect your legal rights (clause 7).
5.9 If SonoCase Pro ends, nothing is deleted. Every case stays on your phone, but you cannot add more than 5, and the Pro features lock again.
6. Ownership
6.1 We (and our licensors) own SonoCase, including its software, design, name and logo. We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use SonoCase on phones you own or control, for the purpose described in these terms.
6.2 You own the content you create in SonoCase: your clips, case text, marks and exports. We claim no rights in it, and we never receive it. You are responsible for having the right to record and share it.
6.3 The names of training organisations shown in SonoCase are used only to describe pathways. They belong to those organisations, which do not endorse SonoCase.
7. Our responsibility to you
7.1 Your legal rights come first. Nothing in these terms takes away rights you have by law that cannot be excluded, including your rights under the Australian Consumer Law (the consumer guarantees) and the UK Consumer Rights Act 2015 (for example, that digital content is of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose and as described).
7.2 Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be limited by law.
7.3 Subject to clauses 7.1 and 7.2, and only to the extent the law allows:
- SonoCase is provided "as is" and "as available". We do not promise that it will be free of errors, always available, or that its privacy aids will find every identifying detail;
- we are not responsible for clinical decisions made by anyone, or for any loss caused by relying on SonoCase for a purpose it is not intended for (clause 2);
- we are not responsible for loss of data on your phone, because SonoCase stores it only on your phone and you control its backups;
- we are not responsible for what happens to content after you share or save it outside SonoCase;
- we are not responsible for losses that were not reasonably foreseeable, or for loss of profit, business or opportunity where you use SonoCase in the course of a business;
- our total liability to you for all claims is limited to the greater of the amount you paid for SonoCase Pro in the 12 months before the claim, or 50 pounds sterling (or 100 Australian dollars).
7.4 Where the Australian Consumer Law applies and our liability for failing to meet a consumer guarantee can be limited, it is limited (at our choice) to supplying the services again or paying the cost of having them supplied again.
8. Your responsibility to us
8.1 You are responsible for any breach of patient privacy, confidentiality, consent or local policy that comes from how you use SonoCase.
8.2 If you use SonoCase in the course of your work (rather than as a consumer), you agree to indemnify us against any claims, losses and reasonable costs that arise from your breach of clause 3 or 4, including claims by patients, employers, health services or regulators.
8.3 If you use SonoCase as a consumer, you are responsible for losses you cause by breaking these terms, to the extent the law allows.
9. Ending, changes and general terms
9.1 Ending. You can stop using SonoCase at any time by deleting it (and cancelling any subscription in your store settings). We may suspend or end your licence if you seriously or repeatedly break these terms. When the licence ends, you must stop using SonoCase. Clauses 3.5, 6.2, 7, 8 and 9 continue after it ends.
9.2 Changes to these terms. We may change these terms, for example when the law or SonoCase changes. Each version has a version number and an effective date. If we make a material change, SonoCase will show you the new terms and ask you to agree again before you carry on using it. If you do not agree, you can stop using SonoCase and cancel any subscription.
9.3 Changes to SonoCase. We may update, change or stop parts of SonoCase. If a change takes away a paid feature you rely on, you can cancel your subscription and ask the store about a refund.
9.4 Severability. If a court decides that part of these terms is invalid or cannot be enforced, the rest of the terms stay in force.
9.5 Entire agreement. These terms, the Privacy Policy and, where they apply, the store terms in Parts B and C, are the whole agreement between you and us about SonoCase. They replace anything said before.
9.6 No waiver. If we do not enforce a term straight away, we can still enforce it later.
9.7 Transfer. We may transfer our rights and duties under these terms to another person or business, if your rights are not reduced. You may not transfer yours.
9.8 Third parties. Apart from Apple and its subsidiaries (Part B), no one else has the right to enforce these terms, including under the Contracts (Rights of Third Parties) Act 1999.
10. Governing law
10.1 These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and disputes go to the courts of England and Wales.
10.2 If you are a consumer and live elsewhere (for example in Scotland, Northern Ireland, Australia or the European Union), you keep the protection of the mandatory laws of the place where you live, and you can bring proceedings in your local courts.
11. Contact
11.1 Email contact@medifries.com. We are the SonoCase developer, based in the United Kingdom, and we deal with all questions, complaints and legal notices by email.
Part B: the App Store terms
These terms apply if you downloaded SonoCase from Apple's App Store. They are the terms Apple requires in every app's licence.
B.1 Acknowledgement. These terms are between you and us only, not Apple. We, not Apple, are solely responsible for SonoCase and its content.
B.2 Scope of licence. Your licence to use SonoCase is non-transferable and limited to Apple-branded products that you own or control, as permitted by the Usage Rules in the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions. SonoCase may also be used by other accounts linked to the buyer through Family Sharing or volume purchasing.
B.3 Maintenance and support. We alone are responsible for any maintenance and support for SonoCase, as set out in these terms or required by law. Apple has no obligation at all to provide maintenance or support for SonoCase.
B.4 Warranty. We are responsible for any product warranties, whether express or implied by law, to the extent they are not effectively disclaimed. If SonoCase fails to conform to any warranty that applies, you may tell Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price (if any) to you. To the maximum extent the law allows, Apple has no other warranty obligation at all for SonoCase. Any other claims, losses, liabilities, damages, costs or expenses caused by a failure to conform to a warranty are our responsibility, as set out in these terms.
B.5 Product claims. We, not Apple, are responsible for dealing with any claims by you or anyone else about SonoCase or your possession or use of it, including: (a) product liability claims; (b) any claim that SonoCase fails to meet a legal or regulatory requirement; and (c) claims under consumer protection, privacy or similar laws, including in connection with SonoCase's use of the HealthKit and HomeKit frameworks (SonoCase uses neither).
B.6 Intellectual property claims. If anyone claims that SonoCase, or your possession and use of it, infringes their intellectual property rights, we, not Apple, are solely responsible for investigating, defending, settling and discharging that claim.
B.7 Legal compliance. You confirm that (a) you are not in a country that is subject to a US Government embargo, or that the US Government has designated as a "terrorist supporting" country; and (b) you are not on any US Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
B.8 Developer name and address. Questions, complaints or claims about SonoCase should go to the SonoCase developer (the United Kingdom) by email: contact@medifries.com.
B.9 Third-party terms. When using SonoCase, you must follow any third-party terms that apply, such as your mobile network's terms.
B.10 Third-party beneficiary. Apple and Apple's subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms. When you accept these terms, Apple will have the right (and will be treated as having accepted the right) to enforce them against you as a third-party beneficiary.
Part C: the Google Play terms
C.1 If you downloaded SonoCase from Google Play, Google's Play Terms of Service apply to your download and to buying SonoCase Pro. Google is not a party to these terms and is not responsible for SonoCase.
